C170A01A-AAT HIGHER SPEED MOTORING Pre-Trip Inspections 1. Tires: Adjust the tire inflation pressures to specifica-tion. Low tire inflation pressures will result inoverheating and possible failure of the tires.Avoid using worn or damaged tires which mayresult in reduced traction or tire failure. NOTE: Never exceed the maximum tire inflation pres-sure shown on the tires. 2. Fuel, engine coolant and engine oil: High speed travel consumes more fuel thanurban motoring. Do not forget to check bothengine coolant and engine oil. 3. Drive belt: A loose or damaged drive belt may result inoverheating of the engine. When driving dur-ing the day in conditions of poor visibility, it ishelpful to drive with headlights on low beam. Thisenables you to be seen as well as to see.
C160I01A-AAT Don't Let Your Parking Brake FreezeUnder some conditions your parking brake can freeze in the engaged position. This is most likelyto happen when there is an accumulation of snowor ice around or near the rear brakes or if thebrakes are wet. If there is a risk the parking brakemay freeze, apply it only temporarily while youput the gear selector lever in "P" (automatic) or infirst or reverse gear (manual transaxle) andblock the rear wheels so the car cannot roll. Thenrelease the parking brake. C160K01A-AAT Carry Emergency Equipment Depending on the severity of the weather where you drive your car, you should carry appropriateemergency equipment. Some of the items youmay want to carry include tire chains, tow strapsor chains, flashlight, emergency flares, sand, ashovel, jumper cables, a window scraper, gloves,ground cloth, coveralls, a blanket, etc.

C190B01S-AAT Trailer Hitches Select the proper hitch and ball combination, making sure that it's location is compatible withthat of the trailer or vehicle being towed.Use a quality non-equalizing hitch which distrib-utes the tongue load uniformly throughout thechassis. The hitch should be bolted securely to the car and installed by a qualified technician. DO NOTUSE A HITCH DESIGNED FOR TEMPORARYINSTALLATION AND NEVER USE ONE THATATTACHES ONLY TO THE BUMPER.

Ask yourHyundai dealer for further details before towing. CAUTION Do not do any towing with your car during itsfirst 2,000 km (1,200 miles) in order to allowthe engine to properly break in. Failure toheed this caution may result in serious en-gine or transaxle damage.

If your car has to be towed, it should be done by your Hyundai dealer or a commercial tow truckservice. This will help assure that your car is notdamaged in towing. Also, professionals are gen-erally aware of local laws governing towing. Inany case, rather than risk damage to your car, itis suggested that you show this information to thetow truck operator. Be sure that a safety chainsystem is used and that all local laws are ob-served.

o If the car is being towed with the rear wheels
on the ground, be sure the parking brake is released.
o If the car is being towed with the front wheels on the ground, be sure that the transaxle is inneutral. Also, be sure that the ignition key is inthe "ACC" position. This is necessary toprevent damage to the steering lock mecha-nism, which is not designed to hold the frontwheels straight while the car is being towed.
o If any of the loaded wheels or suspension components are damaged, a towing dollymust be used.

D060J01FC-GAT After Changing Wheels If you have a tire gauge, remove the valve cap and check the air pressure. If the pressure islower than recommended, drive slowly to thenearest service station and inflate to the correctpressure. If it is too high, adjust it until it is correct.Always reinstall the valve cap after checking oradjusting tire pressure. If the cap is not replaced,air may leak from the tire. If you lose a valve cap,buy another and install it as soon as possible.After you have changed wheels, always securethe flat tire in its place in the luggage compart-ment and return the jack and tools to their properstorage locations.

D080C02A-GAT Towing a Car With an Automatic Transaxle CAUTION: A car with an automatic transaxle should never be towed from the rear with the frontwheels on the ground. This can cause seri-ous damage to the transaxle. If the car mustbe towed from the rear, a towing dolly mustbe used under the front wheels. If the car is being towed with the rear wheels on the ground, be sure the parking brake is re-leased.

D080D02A-AAT Emergency Towing For emergency towing when no commercial tow vehicle is available, attach a tow cable, chain orstrap to one of the towing hooks under the front/rear of your car. Do not attempt to tow yourvehicle in this manner on any unpaved surface.This could result in serious damage to your car.Nor should towing be attempted if the wheels,drive train, axles, steering or brakes are dam-aged. Before towing, be sure the transaxle is inneutral and the key is in "ACC" (with the engineoff) or in the "ON" position (with the enginerunning). A driver must be in the towed car tosteer it and operate the brakes. CAUTION:
o If the car is being towed with all four
wheels on the ground, it can be towedonly from the front. Be sure that thetransaxle is in neutral. Do not tow at speedsgreater than 50 km/h (30 mph) and formore than 25 km (15 miles).

SD070K1-E AFTER CHANGING WHEELS The pressure of the spare tyre should be checked at the first available oppor-tunity. If any doubt exists as to the tyre pressure, the vehicle should be driven slowly to the nearest service stationand the tyre pressure checked and adjusted as required. If the valve cap is lost from any of thevalves, a replacement should be ob- tained and fitted at the first available opportunity. The valve cap preventsthe ingress of dirt which may cause the valve to stick and therefore leak and is part of the valve sealing function. Ensure that the spare wheel, jack and wheel nut wrench as well tools are correctly located in the boot of the vehicle to prevent damage and noise. HGK4032
IF YOUR VEHICLE MUST BE TOWED
D080A01O-GAT If your vehicle has to be towed, it should be done by your Hyundai dealeror a commercial tow truck service. This will help assure that your vehicle is not damaged in towing. Also, profes-sionals are generally aware of local laws governing towing. In any case, rather than risk damage to your car, itis suggested that you show this infor- mation to the tow truck operator. Be sure that a safety chain system is usedand that all local laws are observed. It is recommended that your vehicle be towed with a wheel lift and dollies orflatbed equipment with all the wheels off the ground.

1) If the vehicle is being towed with the
rear wheels on the ground, be sure the parking brake is released.
NOTE: Before towing, check the level of the automatic transaxle fluid. If it is below the "HOT" range on the dip-stick, add fluid. If you cannot add fluid, a towing dolly must be used.
2) If any of the loaded wheels or sus- pension components are damaged or the vehicle is being towed with the front wheels on the ground, use a towing dolly under the front wheels.
o Manual Transaxle: If you do not use a towing dolly,place the ignition key in the "ACC"position and put the transaxle in "N (Neutral)".
CAUTION:
Do not tow with the key removed or in the "LOCK" position when tow- ing from the rear without a towing dolly. o Automatic Transaxle:
Be sure to use a towing dolly underthe front wheels.

IF YOU LOSE YOUR KEYS

If you lock the keys inside your car and you cannotobtain a new key, many Hyundai deal- ers can use special tools to open the door for you.
